Tanning
Policy
Tanning members sign this policy once before their first session. Read it through, then sign at the bottom; your signed copy goes straight to the front desk and onto your member file.
This Tanning Policy is intended to establish safe operating procedures and clear member responsibilities for the use of tanning equipment at Colorado Iron Gym. Tanning is voluntary. By using the equipment, the Member acknowledges the risks described below and agrees to follow this Policy and all directions given by Colorado Iron Gym staff.
Eligibility & Access
- Tanning privileges are available only to active Colorado Iron Gym members who are at least 18 years of age.
- The Member must read, complete, and sign this Policy before using tanning equipment.
- Tanning privileges are personal and may not be shared, transferred, sold, or used by another person.
- Colorado Iron Gym may restrict, suspend, or permanently revoke tanning privileges for safety reasons, policy violations, suspected overuse, equipment concerns, or other reasonable operational or safety considerations.
- A Member may not override a staff safety decision by assuming additional risk or by stating that the Member accepts responsibility.
- Tanning equipment may not be used while under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substance that may impair judgment, coordination, awareness, or the ability to safely follow instructions.
- The Member agrees to provide reasonable information requested by staff concerning any incidents so that Colorado Iron Gym can document and investigate the event.
- Members must maintain reasonable personal hygiene before and after tanning.
Important Health & Safety Warning
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, premature skin aging, eye injury, skin damage, and skin cancer. Repeated UV exposure increases cumulative exposure and associated risk. A cosmetic tan does not mean that UV exposure is harmless. Colorado Iron Gym does not provide medical advice, diagnose medical conditions, determine whether tanning is medically appropriate for an individual, or determine whether a medication or topical product is photosensitizing. The Member is responsible for obtaining appropriate medical advice when necessary.
Medical Conditions, Medications, and Photosensitivity
- Members who have a history of skin cancer, melanoma, unusual sensitivity to sunlight, photosensitivity disorders, significant skin conditions, eye conditions, or other medical conditions that may be affected by UV exposure should consult an appropriate medical professional before tanning.
- Members who are pregnant, attempting to become pregnant, or who have questions about pregnancy and UV exposure should consult a medical professional before tanning.
- Many prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements, and topical products may increase sensitivity to UV radiation. Examples can include certain antibiotics, diuretics, antidepressants, blood-pressure medications, antimalarials, analgesics, contraceptives, psoralens, retinoids, and certain cosmetic or dermatological products. This list is not exhaustive.
- The Member is responsible for reviewing medication and product warnings and seeking medical advice when uncertain about UV exposure.
- Colorado Iron Gym may refuse or shorten a tanning session when a staff member reasonably believes that use presents a safety concern.
- The Member must promptly report any injury, suspected burn, eye discomfort, unusual skin reaction, equipment malfunction, or other adverse event to Colorado Iron Gym staff.
- Protective eyewear designed for tanning equipment must be worn as designed for the entire tanning session.
Tanning Session Duration & Frequency
- Only Colorado Iron Gym staff may establish the permitted exposure time and intensity.
- The Member may not extend, restart, override, or otherwise alter an authorized session.
- Exposure time and frequency may vary based on the equipment, skin type, prior exposure, and other safety considerations. Longer or more frequent sessions do not necessarily produce better results and can increase risk.
- A Member must not utilize the tanning equipment twice within a 24-hour period.
Before Entering the Tanning Equipment
- Remove jewelry and items that could interfere with the equipment or cause injury.
- Remove cosmetics, makeup, perfume, deodorant, and other products that may adversely affect UV exposure unless specifically designed for tanning use.
- Do not use tanning equipment if you are ill, impaired, excessively fatigued, or otherwise unable to safely follow instructions.
- Do not bring food, beverages, or prohibited items into the tanning room.
During the Tanning Session
- Remain attentive to your physical condition throughout the session.
- Immediately stop the session and exit the equipment if you experience pain, burning, dizziness, nausea, weakness, unusual skin irritation, eye discomfort, shortness of breath, or any other concerning symptom.
- Immediately notify Colorado Iron Gym staff of any adverse reaction, injury, equipment malfunction, unusual odor, unusual noise, excessive heat, or other concern.
- Do not cover ventilation openings, interfere with fans, manipulate timers, adjust equipment controls, or tamper with safety features.
- Do not engage in unsafe, disruptive, sexual, inappropriate, or reckless behavior in the tanning area.
Equipment Safety & Malfunctions
- Members may not operate equipment that appears damaged, defective, unusually hot, or otherwise unsafe.
- Members must not repair, modify, move, disconnect, or attempt to service tanning equipment.
- Any malfunction or safety concern must be reported to staff immediately.
- Colorado Iron Gym may remove equipment from service until it has been inspected, serviced, or otherwise determined to be safe.
Privacy, Conduct, & Personal Property
- Tanning rooms are private-use areas. No person may enter another Member's tanning room without authorization, except staff or emergency personnel acting for legitimate safety or operational reasons.
- Photography, video recording, or other recordings within the tanning area is prohibited.
- Members are responsible for securing personal property. Colorado Iron Gym is not responsible for lost, stolen, or unattended belongings except to the extent liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
- Members must not leave personal products, trash, or other material on or around tanning equipment.
Assumption of Risk & Release
The Member understands that the use of tanning equipment involves inherent and foreseeable risks, including but not limited to UV exposure, sunburn, skin irritation, allergic or photosensitive reactions, premature skin aging, eye injury, skin damage, and increased risk of skin cancer. The Member voluntarily chooses to use tanning equipment and accepts responsibility for complying with this Policy, equipment instructions, exposure limitations, and staff directions. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Member releases and agrees not to hold Colorado Iron Gym, North El Paso Holdings LLC, their respective owners, members, managers, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates responsible for claims arising from the Member's voluntary use of tanning equipment, except to the extent such a release is prohibited or unenforceable under applicable law. Nothing in this Policy is intended to waive, release, or limit any right, claim, or liability that cannot lawfully be waived, released, or limited under applicable law.
Policy Changes, Pricing, & Tanning Privileges
- Colorado Iron Gym may modify tanning procedures, safety rules, equipment, exposure schedules, access requirements, or pricing when reasonably necessary or appropriate for safety, operations, equipment changes, legal or regulatory requirements, or business purposes.
- Members will be subject to the rules and procedures in effect at the time of use, subject to applicable law and any contractual rights that cannot lawfully be changed.
- Tanning privileges are a benefit of membership and are not guaranteed to remain available indefinitely.

I understand that Colorado Iron Gym employees are not medical professionals and that I am responsible for determining whether tanning is appropriate for me, including considering my medical conditions, medications, topical products, and individual sensitivity to UV exposure. I understand that Colorado Iron Gym may refuse or terminate my tanning privileges when it reasonably determines that doing so is necessary for safety, compliance, or other legitimate operational reasons.
